Rameswar Temple Near Kodopal Park Jhargram Bengal Tourism: The Rameshwar temple is located beside the Subarnarekha river. Rameshwar is about 42 km away from Kharagpur and 65 km away from Jhargram. The region is famous for the elephant zone stretching from Jhargram to the Dumla range.

History:

Previously the area was part of Mayurbhanj province. This area was formerly known as Kashipur. Shyamananda Mahaprabhu, a prominent figure in the Vaishnava sect, was instructed by Shrimati Radha Rani to travel and carry the sacred water of the Yamuna to this place and establish a temple since then the village was named after Gopiballav (Sri Krishna).

Since that Kashipur is known as Gopiballavpur ever since. The village retains this old temple from 1400 and has been run and controlled by the Vaishnava Goswami Families. Mahant is now the head of the temple.

The temple is known as Shri Radha Govinda Mandir and locally as the “Gupta Vrindavan”. Contains photos of Shri Radha Govind Ji and Smt. Radha Rani and the idols of Jagannatha Mahaprabhu, Balabhadra, and Subadra. The annual Festival (Ratha Yatra) is held annually.

Gopiballabpur also has the ancient Mahadev temple where the annual Gajan Mela is kept. Besides Gajon, Chorok Mela, Snan Jatra, and Jhulon Jatra are prominent festivals in the area. The chou dancers from Orissa are brought every year to give performances to the audience in these fairs.

Rameswar temple is believed that constructed by Lord Rama at the request of queen Sita with the help of Vishwakarma.
