Takdah Homestay: During my Kalimpong tour, I had the pleasure of visiting Takdah with friends. The picturesque scenery captivated my senses, creating a truly enchanting experience. Takdah is a beautiful hill village near Darjeeling, nestled amidst hills and tea gardens. Venture to this incredible place on weekends to discover its charm. Many people are not familiar with this small village, making it a hidden gem yet to be fully developed as a tourist destination. It is a dreamy place where the sun and clouds play hide and seek with joy, misty trails, blooming orchids, and breathtaking mountain views. If all these temptations are compelling you to leave your desk right now, then Takdah is the perfect place for you.

Located in the Rungli Rungliot area of Darjeeling district, 27 km away from the main city, Takdah sits at an elevation of 5100 feet. Here, you can take a stroll through the deodar and cedar forests, pause at a local orchid garden, visit some renowned British heritage bungalows, and witness local women picking tea leaves with boundless enthusiasm in the tea gardens.

Despite the departure of the British after India’s independence, the houses they built and many other establishments remain. Most of these houses were constructed between 1905 and 1915. Now, they either belong to some locals or have been taken over by institutions like schools. Takdah, also known as “Tukdah,” was a British cantonment area, and you can still see memories of British rule in the bungalows and gardens of Takdah. In Takdah, you can stay in a heritage bungalow built in 1908, which is equipped with modern amenities for tourists who want to relive the days of the Raj.

Best Time to Visit Takdah:

The best time to visit Takdah and the surrounding areas is from October to March. This period offers the best weather with clear skies, allowing you to enjoy the coolness of winter.
