Mythology Of The Temple:
When Lord Shiva’s penance in the Himalayas was disturbed when the Nandi Vardhan situated on the Abu mountain started shaking because Lord Shiva’s ox Nandi was also on this mountain.
Now Nandi ox had to be saved along with the mountain, in such a way Lord Shiva spread his thumb from the Himalayas and straightened the Abu mountain, in this way Nandi ox was saved and became stable in the mountain. The thumb footprints of Lord Shiva can be seen even today.
