The temple of Maa Chintpurni Devi is situated in the Una district of Himachal Pradesh.
What is the history of Mother Chintpurni Devi?
According to mythological beliefs, once a war started between the Gods and the Asuras, which was not ended. It is said that this war lasted for 100 years, during which the gods were defeated.

After being defeated, all the gods and goddesses came to the earth and started walking like ordinary humans and the Asura king Mahishasura started ruling heaven.
After some time, the Asuras started torturing all the Gods and Goddesses, after which, being fed up, all the Gods and Goddesses reached the shelter of Lord Vishnu and requested him to protect them from the Asuras. That’s why Lord Vishnu invoked Brahma and Mahesh i.e. Mahadev, the God of Gods.
After that, both of them also reached here. After listening to this incident, a divine light appeared from the body of the Tridev i.e. Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, who took the form of a goddess on seeing it. Tridev gave some divine powers to that goddess like all other gods and goddesses.
After bestowing the powers, all the gods and goddesses together worshiped that goddess. Pleased with their worship, the goddess said I will definitely protect all you gods and goddesses. Saying this, the goddess left for heaven to fight with Mahishasura.
After reaching heaven, the goddess started a war with the demon king Mahishasura and finally defeated Mahishasura and protected the deities from the asuras.
After killing Mahishasura, she came to be known as Mahishasura Mardani. Since Mahishasura Mardani had removed the worries of all the gods and goddesses, that is why all the gods and goddesses addressed her by the name of Goddess Chintpurni and started hailing her.
Mata Chintpurni Devi is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. Mata Sati’s feet had fallen here, hence Mata Chintpurni Devi is worshiped here in the form of feet.

According to mythology, it is said that once a pandit was going to his in-law’s house after being troubled by poverty. After getting dark on the way, they took a rest under a banyan tree.

That’s why the mother appeared to that pandit in the form of a small girl in the dream. After waking up, that pandit could not see anything, so he left for his in-law’s house in the morning.
While returning from his in-law’s house, the pandit decided to rest for the night under the same banyan tree. After reaching the banyan tree, the pandit started meditating.
As a result, the mother appeared to that pandit in her fourth form and said I will reside under this banyan tree. And also said that the water of a river flows under the stones near this banyan tree.
When the Pandit removed the stone in the morning, the water of a river was found there, from which Jalabhishek of Mata Chintpurni Devi is performed even today.

Do’s:
- Go to Goddess Darshan in line after taking darshan parchi from the security guard of the Temple.

The Temple has constructed toilet facilities at 5 different situations in the Chintpurni area i.e. at Bharwain parking, Mirgu, Chintpurni, Hospital road, and two Blocks near Shiv Mandir Chintpurni.
Rain Shelters
The rain shelters at 8 different points along road/ paths have been constructed for pilgrims. In addition to this at 2 places, Tiala under Bar-tree has been constructed i.e. at Mubarikpur, Sidh Chalehar, Kinnu, Bharwain, Mirgu, on the step to Talab, Old bus stands Chintpurni and cremation ground.
Street Lighting
The Temple Chintpurni has provided the street light facilities with the latest SVL light lamps in the whole effective area being utilized by pilgrims. In a stretch of 5 KM length and surrounding village, Chhaproh paths related to Pujaries etc. and also being used by pilgrims and addition to above a 3 KM long Samnoli bye-pass has also been laminated. The expenditure incurring on electric bolls and maintenance of the same (more than 600 points) is also being paid from Temple funds. For providing transformers at 4 places the funds has also been related to HPSEB long back.
