On the fourth day, embark on a thrilling jeep safari in the sanctuary to spot a variety of plants and animals. The sanctuary is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to several endangered species. In the evening, unwind and soak in the peaceful surroundings of Thekkady.
On the fifth day, travel to Alleppey. The distance between Thekkady and Alleppey is around 150 km and it typically takes around 5-6 hours to reach by car. The most common mode of transportation used between these two locations is by car or taxi, although there are frequent buses available too. However, the journey by bus can be long. Another popular mode of transportation is by boat, which can take around 4-5 hours and is a scenic way to travel. This option is possible only when the water level is high enough.
Upon reaching Alleppey and checking into your hotel, take a serene boat ride on the backwaters and visit the beautiful Alleppey Beach. Also, visit St. Andrew’s Basilica Arthunkal, a stunning church located on the beach. Don’t forget to indulge in the traditional Kerala delicacies that are available here. Spending the night on a houseboat is highly recommended as it offers a closer and more immersive experience of the local life and culture.
On the final day of your tour, you can travel to Kochi from Alleppey, which is approximately 85 km away and can be covered in 2-3 hours by car or taxi. Alternatively, you can take a boat ride that takes 4-5 hours or a train that takes 1-2 hours, depending on the train you choose. Once in Kochi, visit popular tourist spots such as Fort Kochi, Mattancherry Palace, and Jewish Synagogue.
Fort Kochi is a historic area with colonial-era buildings, including the oldest European church in India, St. Francis Church, and the Santa Cruz Basilica. Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is a beautiful palace built by the Portuguese in the 16th century.
The Jewish Synagogue, built-in 1568, is the oldest synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. After exploring these landmarks, indulge in local seafood delicacies before departing from Kochi.
