Pelling is the second most popular tourist destination in Sikkim which has much to offer. But beyond this, there are numerous hidden gems waiting to be discovered. India opens its first skywalk at Pelling in Sikkim. The Pelling Skywalk is a transparent structure made of glass. It is near adjacent to the giant Chenrezig statue. “Chenrezig” is a manifestation of all the Buddha’s compassion.

The Pelling Skywalk offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the breathtaking natural beauty of Pelling. This Skywalk, the first of its kind in India, features a glass floor, providing a unique vantage point to take in the awe-inspiring views. It serves as the connecting bridge to the colossal Chenrezig statue, situated on the prominent hilltop.

Visitors can relish the exhilarating sensation of walking on the glass surface while marveling at the lush green hills all around. While this activity is suitable for all age groups, it’s recommended to avoid heavy meals or alcoholic beverages before your visit. The Skywalk is accessible to visitors from 9 am to 5 pm.

What is the Chenrezig Statue?

In Buddhism, Avalokiteśvara or Padmapani embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. This bodhisattva is depicted in various forms, and across different cultures, is represented as both male and female. In Tibet, Avalokiteśvara is known as Chenrezig.

Chinese Buddhism has evolved the figure into a slightly different female deity, Guanyin. In Japan, she’s referred to as Kanzeon or Kannon. In Nepal, this figure is recognized as Jana Baha Dyah, Karunamaya, or Seto Machindranath.
