I started the journey from Kharagpur West Bengal with my friend Sushil in my Honda Activa 125. Its distance is 220 km from Kharagpur. So let me tell you about it in this article.

Located on the border of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts in Odisha, Bhimkund Waterfall is an ancient wonder, waiting to be explored from both sides (Keonjhar & Mayurbhanj), and it is easily accessible. Gracing the sacred Baitarani River, it is one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in Keonjhar Odisha.

What makes this destination even more attractive is its accessibility, with no entry fee required for visitors. The surrounding area is currently under development to meet the needs of tourists. About 27 km from Dhenkikote on NH 20, serves as a gateway, offering dining options and more. With a picturesque view of the banks of river Baitarani, Bhimkund not only stands as a delightful picnic spot but also holds an important historical background, making it an excellent choice for photographers wishing to capture the essence of this remarkable site.

Situated on the banks of Baitarani River, Bhimkund Waterfall is a hidden gem located about 40 km from Karanjia and 60 km from Keonjhar town. This natural wonder boasts two picturesque streams, Sana Kund and Bada Kund, each of which has mythological significance. Located on the border between Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, this site not only has awe-inspiring waterfalls but also houses the sacred Kundeshwar Mahadev Temple and a colossal statue of the legendary Mahabali Bhima. Adding to the visitor’s experience, a tall watchtower stands proudly on the Keonjhar side, offering panoramic views of the waterfall, making Bhimkund a truly captivating destination.

According to legend, it is believed that one of the Pandavas, Bhima, used to come to this sacred pool to bathe during the period when the Pandavas were living secretly in Viratnagar, which is identified as present-day Kaptipada.  This historical resonance adds a unique charm to the place.

By Train: For those opting for rail travel, the following are the nearest railway stations:

  • Kendujhargarh Railway Station: 60 km
  • Jajpur-Kendujhar Road Railway Station: 94 km

By Road from Kharagpur West Bengal

Step 1: Follow NH49 and head towards NH 220 in Odisha. Take the exit from NH 220/NH49, covering a distance of approximately 152 km. The estimated travel time for this leg is 3 hours and 37 minutes.

Step 2: Continue your journey on NH 220, and proceed to Patana – Bhima Kunda Rd in Vikaramada. This stretch spans about 54.1 km and is anticipated to take 1 hour and 23 minutes.
