Gurudwara Peer Bala Sahib Kothi Near Mahilpur Hoshiarpur District Punjab: I have been to Gurudwara Peer Bala Sahib Ji many times because my maternal aunt’s house is in Kothi village. This Gurudwara is visible from my aunt’s house and it is a beautiful sight.

Gurudwara Peer Bala Sahib is a beautiful Gurudwara located in Dadi Kothi village, 15 km from Mahilpur (District Hoshiarpur). Situated on a small hillock, it commemorates the Visit of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. This Shrine is under the control of Tarna Dal Gurdwara Harian Vailan.

This Gurudwara was established and constructed in 1954-55 by Baba Harbhajan Singh Nihang Taruna Dal. The name of the Gurdwara, Peer Bala, means the Pir of Bhai Bala i.e. Guru Nanak Dev.

History Of Gurudwara Peer Bala Sahib

According to the History Board, a spiritual power, the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji had visited this place. From here Guru Nanak Dev Ji went to the city of Baghdad for the marriage of Raja Bharthari. King Bharthari after leaving his kingdom came to Siddhas and Jogis and resided with them.

His marriage was fixed with the daughter of King Bhadrasen and he was to reach Baghdad in a day. Sidha and Jogi could not send Raja Bharthari to Baghdad in such a short time. King Bharthari became sad and went to another hill where he met Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

He told his whole story to Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Ji told him to close his eyes, and in just a second he and Guru Nanak Ji were in Baghdad.  After the marriage, he brought him back to Siddhas. Siddhas felt ashamed and caught the feet of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

The history collides with the gurdwara sahib in Takhtupura. This Gurdwara was discovered very later and the same record is present on the history board. It may be due to the negligence of authorities.
