Vagir Submarine – ‘Sand Shark’ joins Indian Navy, India’s strength in sea increased with INS Vagir: INS Vagir has been inducted into the Indian Navy. This is the fifth submarine of the Kalvari class under Project 75, which has been inducted into the Indian Navy.

INS Vagir was commissioned into the Navy in the presence of Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The Navy has said that INS Vagir is equipped with the world’s best sensors and torpedoes and surface-to-surface missiles.

The submarine also has the capability to launch Marine Commandos for special operations. INS Vagir has been inducted into the Indian Navy amid China’s growing presence in the Indian Ocean.

INS Vagir is completely built in India. It has been built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited of Mumbai in collaboration with the French company Naval Group. The specialty of this submarine is that this submarine can be used in anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, laying of landmines in the sea, and surveillance work.

This submarine can be deployed both on the coast and in the middle of the sea. Trials of this submarine have been done. INS Vagir, a diesel-electric class submarine, can run at a speed of 37 kilometers per hour in the sea.

This submarine can travel a distance of 12 thousand kilometers at a time on the surface of the sea, then it can travel a distance of one thousand kilometers at a time inside the sea. INS Vagir can go to a maximum depth of 350 meters in the sea and can stay under the sea continuously for 50 days.

The special thing about INS Vagir is that it executes its mission very silently, which is why it is called the silent killer. It is equipped with submarine stealth technology, due to which even radars cannot easily catch it. This submarine has 8 torpedo tubes of 533 mm, in which missiles can be loaded.

This submarine can also work for laying landmines in the sea, due to which it can cause a lot of damage to the enemy. Seeing its merits, it has been named Sand Shark. This submarine can prove to be important in dealing with the growing challenge of China in the Indian Ocean.
