Cassandra Nazareth Changing The Lives Of Warli Tribals, Know How?

Cassandra (Cassy) Nazareth Changing The Lives Of Warli Tribals, Know How?: You must know the wonderful story of Mumbai’s Cassandra Nazareth’s efforts to bring basic amenities to the lives of thousands of families of the Warli tribal community in Maharashtra, amidst the jungle.

About six years ago, Mumbai-based Cassandra Nazareth went to the Aarey forest to save trees around the city. There, he discovered several villages of Warli tribesmen amidst the jungle. Despite being so close to the city, the villages here were far behind in the race for development. A social worker by profession, Cassandra decided to help these tribal women and children.

For the past six years, Cassandra, along with her team, has been helping 2,500 families living in 13 villages in the Aarey forest and 1,200 families in four villages on Madh Island. These families, living in the middle of the jungle with little land and very few resources, were culturally rich.

That’s why Cassandra made her art and culture her strength. With the help of his organization, he started a program called #TRibalLunch. Through this, Mumbaikars got a taste of traditional food cooked by the women here in Aarey Forest. Apart from this, he also started many other programs one after the other.

Bio Toilet made for Warli Tribal Society

Cassandra provided many facilities like 45 bio-toilets, 11 domestic flour mills, and sewing machines in the village so that the women could become self-reliant. From time to time, his team organizes everything from medical camps to training programs for literacy and computer knowledge.

Cassandra’s team has also provided menstrual hygiene to over 2,500 families through the #SurekhaMenstrualCupProject, bringing a massive change in the quality of life of women and girl children here.

At the same time, smokeless gas stoves were also provided to these women for cooking. Even after doing all this, Cassandra has not stopped. He believes that until the Warli tribal women become completely self-sufficient to sell their products, this society will not be called developed.

Currently, through crowdfunding, her organization is arranging camps, etc. for the women of the Warli community.
