And it does not matter what device you use. It does not matter how you upload it. It does not matter even if you include,#Shorts, in the title or the description, it qualifies as YouTube Shorts.
Wherever it appears on YouTube as a Shorts video is an entirely different question. And now for the long answer. (upbeat music)So, I’m writing this video because some of you are still a little confused about how YouTube Shorts work and that’s okay, I don’t blame you.
YouTube still isn’t doing a very good job of communicating Shorts. So vidIQ is stepping in to help out. If you update your YouTube app, you might have the ability to create your Short within the YouTube app.

But as of the time of recording this feature is currently only available in certain countries, such as India. And here is the irony. I’ve been talking about YouTube Shorts for months and I still don’t have access to the tool on my mobile app which is why I’m creating them everywhere and anywhere apart from on the app.
But it could all change in the future. It may be, that at some point in 2021, everybody has to create YouTube Shorts from the mobile app. That is to be determined. And I’ll let you know all about that in the future if it does change.
What’s so cool about YouTube Shorts, really, number one is that it’s a great way to get in front of people you have yet met, because of what is called the Shorts Shelf.
The Short Shelf is simply because you uploaded a Short that YouTube will push you into their algorithm and put you in front of people as they watch other people’s shorts. This poses a great opportunity for you to start creating Shorts on your YouTube channel.
So when it comes to rules on YouTube Shorts there are really just two to keep in mind that I want you to know.
- The first is that it must stay under 60 seconds. It can’t exceed 60 seconds because if it does, it’ll be classified as a regular YouTube video. And you want this to be classified as a Short. So make sure you keep your video under 60 seconds.
- The second is to make sure you create a vertical video. And so it does make it easier to create on the smartphone but all throughout your process you want to make sure that your video stays vertical, even at the time of exporting your video.
- Now, the next thing to consider is your Gear for your smartphone. And the reality is, you can use your smartphone as is with your hand, holding it rested somewhere like a shelf or something, but if you need to go hands-free you want to potentially get something like a phone tripod that will hold your phone to allow you to create hands-free.
