Changey Falls is full of timeless beauty and continues to mesmerize tourists throughout the year.

Nevertheless, it is advised to stay away during the monsoon season due to challenging road conditions and increased risk of landslides. Changey Falls is a small waterfall nestled amidst mountains and forests. Falling from a height of approximately 150 feet, the waterfall is a marvel to behold with its crystal-clear water and lush green surroundings.

The melodious chirping of numerous Himalayan birds like the White-capped Water Redstart, Verditer Flycatcher, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Blue-fronted Redstart, Grey Treepie, Indian Robin, and Blue Whistling Thrush creates an enchanting atmosphere akin to paradise.

A four-wheeled drive of about one hour from Lava will take you to Changey Falls. The distance from Kolakham to Changey Falls is approximately 4 kilometers. To reach the waterfall, a final stretch of 900 meters needs to be covered on foot from the last motorable point.

The resounding roar of the colossal waterfall creates a magnificent spectacle of tranquility. There are no public or private buses operating on this route, so visitors will need to hire a taxi for the journey to the waterfall.

Best Timing and Season to Visit Changey Waterfall

The beauty of Changey Falls is a year-round delight, offering its enchanting sights in every season. However, it’s wise to steer clear during the monsoon season due to challenging road conditions and frequent landslides. The ideal time to visit is from October to April when the weather is pleasant and the roads are in good condition.

There is a Rupees 200/- entry fee and Rupees 10/-  to visit this waterfall because it’s inside the Neora Valley National Park. You can explore Changey Falls at any time of the day, but for the best experience, aim to visit between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Accomodations & Homestays

Located within 15 kilometers from Lava, you’ll find a variety of accommodations near the waterfall, ranging from homestays to resorts. Another prominent location is Kolakham (a village where most tourist lodges are located). approximately 4 kilometers from Changey Falls. You won’t encounter any difficulties in finding suitable lodging. If you are staying at Kolakham, you can also plan for a hike. 

How To Reach Changey Waterfall

The popular tourist destination, Lava, is situated in close proximity to Neora Valley National Park, approximately 105 km from NJP and 34 km from Kalimpong. The park’s entrance is located at Kolakham, a village about 10 km from Lava. The journey from Kalimpong to Lava takes a little over 1 hour, while it takes about 3 hours from NJP via Kalimpong.

Another route from NJP to Lava is through Gorubathan. Take NH-31 towards Sevoke Road, cross the Coronation Bridge, and pass through Odlabari, Damdim, and Gorubathan, before reaching Lava, which takes about 3 hours. From Lava, the 10 km distance to Neora Valley would take an additional hour due to the challenging road conditions. To navigate this approach road to Changey Waterfall in Lava Neora Valley, it’s recommended to use a jeep-type vehicle.

By Flight:

The nearest airport to Kalimpong is Bagdogra Airport, located near Siliguri, West Bengal. Changey Falls is approximately 125 km from Bagdogra Airport, which can be covered by a 4-hour drive.

By Train:

The nearest railway station to Kalimpong is NJP, which is about 115 km away. From NJP, you can reach the falls in 3 to 4 hours with the help of a rented car.

By Road:

Changey Fall, a popular tourist spot near Lava and Kalimpong, is well-connected by road. Once you have a car from Kolkata, Siliguri, or any other city in West Bengal, reaching the waterfall is quite easy.
