About 11 km from Mount Abu is the Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple located near the Achalgarh Fort on the hills of Achalgarh. There is a specialty of this temple, where you will see people worshiping Shivji’s idol or Shivling in temples all over the world, in this temple, the toe thumb of Shivji is worshipped.

Here Bholenath resides in the thumb. It is believed that due to the thumb of Lord Shiva present in this temple, the mountains of Mount Abu are stable.

Shivling’s Colour Changes 3 Times a Day:

Another specialty of this temple is that the Shivling installed in this temple changes its color thrice a day. You will find it very normal to see Shivling, but its changing colors will surprise you.

The color of the Shivling turns red in the morning, then saffron in the afternoon, and black at the night. The idol of Nandi made of five metals is also installed in the temple.

Mythology Of The Temple:

When Lord Shiva’s penance in the Himalayas was disturbed when the Nandi Vardhan situated on the Abu mountain started shaking because Lord Shiva’s ox Nandi was also on this mountain.

Now Nandi ox had to be saved along with the mountain, in such a way Lord Shiva spread his thumb from the Himalayas and straightened the Abu mountain, in this way Nandi ox was saved and became stable in the mountain. The thumb footprints of Lord Shiva can be seen even today.

Water Does Not Fill In The Pit Of The Thumb

It is believed that this pit never fills, no matter how much water is filled in it. To date, no one has been able to know the secret of where the water goes.
