To visit Neora Valley National Park, there are two entry points. The first entry point is located at Kolakham village, approximately 10 km away from Lava. Visitors can reach Kolakham village from Lava by taking a jeep ride, which usually takes about 1 hour. The second entry gate to Neora Valley is situated at Samsing.

Neora Valley National Park

Neora Valley National Park, located in the Kalimpong district of West Bengal, is a protected wildlife sanctuary and a treasure trove of biodiversity. Spanning 88 sq. km, this park was established in 1986 CE and is known for being one of the oldest Reserve Forests in India. Rich Flora and Fauna:

Neora Valley National Park boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it one of the richest biological zones in Eastern India. Entry Points and Trekking Routes:

The park can be accessed through two entry points: one at Kolakham village, around 10 km from Lava, and the other at Samsing. The journey from Lava to Kolakham takes approximately 1 hour by jeep. For trekkers, the route from Samsing to Neora Valley is a popular choice, offering a 3.5-hour drive from New Jalpaiguri. Trekking routes originate from Suntaley Khola (5 km from Samsing) and Choudapheri near Lava, with the latter being a preferred 4 to 5-day trek in the area.

Changey Waterfall:

Visitors can also explore Changey Waterfall, which is 4 km from Kolakham and accessible by a jeep ride followed by a 20-minute walk. The park’s mountainous and challenging terrain restricts tourism activities inside the forest. There are no forest safaris or official forest trail treks within the National Park. However, adventurers can arrange treks with special permits at the forest range offices in Lava or Samsing.

Best Time to Visit:

The ideal time to visit Neora Valley National Park is from October to April when the weather is pleasant and conducive to exploration. The park remains closed for three months during the monsoon season.
