The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Memorial War Museum is built on six acres of land along with the Ludhiana Zoo. The museum came into existence in 1999. Ancient weapons are kept in this museum. 12 different galleries have been made in it.
About The Museum:
The Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum was established in 1999 by the Government of Punjab as a tribute to the brave soldiers. It is located on GT Road (Ludhiana – Amritsar High Way), at a distance of 6.7 km from Ludhiana Railway Station.
There is a large statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at the entrance of the museum. Along with ancient weapons, tourists can also see a large model of INS Vikrant by the side of the statue.
Light and sound shows are also organized in the museum. Tourists can see large portraits of Punjabis who have received prestigious gallantry awards such as Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra. The uniform of the Indian Army contingent of the British era is also on display here.
The Museum Is Built On Six Acres Of Land:
The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Memorial War Museum is built on six acres of land along with the Ludhiana Zoo. The museum came into existence in 1999.
Ancient weapons are kept in this museum. Weapons ranging from khukris, swords, spears, and spears to the First and Second World Wars, the Anglo-Sikh War and the battles fought after independence have been kept.
The photographs and history of the great warriors who were martyred for the country are written in the museum.
In this, 12 different galleries have been made, in which information has been given about category-wise warriors and wars. One gallery has the wars before independence, the second the wars after independence, the third the war heroes, the fourth the Airforce, the fifth the Navy, and the sixth the Army gallery.
In this way, different galleries have been made. In the main hall, pictures and achievements of the warriors who have shown indomitable courage in the battles and have been honored with different chakras have been written.
Forty Rupees Fee For Two Hours:
Apart from this, photographs of Punjabis who were chiefs of different parts of the Indian Army have also been displayed in this hall. Large weapons like tanks and fighter planes of the Airforce, Navy, and Army are kept on the lawn of the War Museum.
The War Museum remains open from 10 am to 5 pm. A fee of Rs 40 has been kept for visiting here for two hours while the fee for children is Rs 20. It is operated by the Punjab Tourism Department.
Tank and Fighter Jets Are Kept In The Lawn:
- T 54 – This tank was an important part of the Indian Army from 1966 to 1993. In the Indo-Pak war of 1971, this tank rescued sixes of the enemy.
- PT 56- This tank was prepared by Russia in 1956. This tank also played an important role in the 1971 war.
- T 16- This is an American tank and it was inducted into the Indian Army before the second war with Pakistan.
- Sukhoi SU7 and MiG 27 are also kept in this war museum.
There are many such old tankers in the Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum, whose names have been read only in books. Many people are unaware of why he is famous.

This tank made a special contribution to Operation Cactus Lily during the 1971 war. The Sukhoi Su-7 is a single-seater aircraft and was inducted into the Air Force during the 1968 war. At the same time, the MiG-27 was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 1980 and this aircraft was used in the Kargil war and the Parakram operation.
The Warriors Statue Itself Tells History:
There is a big statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the museum. Apart from this, big statues of Hari Singh Nalwa and Banda Singh Bahadur have also been made. Along with these idols, information has been given about their entire history and the wars fought by them. A Kargil war memorial has also been built here now.

Museum in-charge Subedar Major Dharampal said that the War Museum has preserved war items before and after independence, including antique weapons.
People also come from far and wide to see the old heritage. The museum remains open from 10 am to 5 pm throughout the week. Information can be obtained in this museum for two hours for 40 rupees, whereas for children this fee is 10-20 rupees.
