Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 in a tribal family in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. His father’s name was Biranchi Narayan Tudu, who, according to his traditions, was the head of the village and society.

After completing her initial education in her home district, Draupadi got her bachelor’s degree from Ramadevi Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Bhubaneswar. After completing of studies, she started her career as a teacher and worked in this field for some time.

Draupadi Murmu was married to Shyam Charan Murmu, with whom they had two sons and a daughter. Later both of her sons died and leaving her husband also merged into Panchtatva. The loss of her children and husband was a difficult period for Draupadi Murmu but she did not give up and entered politics to do something for society.

Draupadi Murmu’s Political Career:

She started her political career with the BJP in Odisha. After joining BJP, she participated in Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat’s councilor election in 1997 and won. The BJP made Murmu the vice-president of the party’s Scheduled groups Morcha.

After this, in the coalition government of BJP and Biju Janata Dal in Odisha from 2000 to 2002, she was Minister of Commerce and Transport with independent charge. Worked as Minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Resource Development from 2002 to 2004.

She also won the Legislative Assembly election from the Raiganj Assembly seat of Odisha. Later, from 2015 to 2021, the Governor of Jharkhand was also appointed. She became the first woman governor of the state.
