Best Time To Visit

Munnar is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is from September to May. During this time, the weather is pleasant, making it perfect for exploring tea plantations, trekking, and sightseeing. However, the peak tourist season is between December and February, so expect large crowds.

Thekkady is also best visited from September to May. The weather is pleasant, ideal for exploring the wildlife sanctuary and taking boat rides on the lake. However, the peak tourist season is between December and February, so prepare for a crowd.

Alleppey is best visited between September and March when the weather is pleasant, making it perfect for taking boat rides on the backwaters, visiting the beach, and enjoying the scenic beauty of the area. However, during the peak tourist season between December and February, the area is crowded.

Munnar is well-connected by road to major cities in Kerala, such as Kochi, Trivandrum, and Coimbatore. You can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Munnar. The cheapest mode of transport to reach Munnar is by bus, but it will take a little more time. If time is not an issue, it’s better to take a bus, but if you’re in a hurry, a reserved taxi is a better option.

Day 1:

On the second day, you can further explore Munnar and visit other important places in the town. In the morning, visit Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India. On the third day, travel from Munnar to Thekkady. The distance between Munnar and Thekkady is around 110 km, and it usually takes around 3-4 hours to travel by car. The mode of transportation that is most commonly used between these two locations is by car or taxi. There are also buses available, but they are not frequent. The roads are mostly hilly and winding, so the journey can be a bit tiring. The best way to explore this journey is by hiring a car or a taxi.

Thekkady is known for its beautiful dam and the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. After checking in to your hotel, visit Thekkady Dam, which is a popular spot for picnicking and boating. Then, head to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a variety of animals such as elephants, tigers, wild boars, and many species of birds. Take a boat ride on the lake to see the animals up close and explore the sanctuary further. In the evening, you can visit local tribal settlements and spice plantations.

Day 4:

The most common mode of transportation used between these two locations is by car or taxi, although there are frequent buses available too. However, the journey by bus can be long. Another popular mode of transportation is by boat, which can take around 4-5 hours and is a scenic way to travel. This option is possible only when the water level is high enough.

Upon reaching Alleppey and checking into your hotel, take a serene boat ride on the backwaters and visit the beautiful Alleppey Beach. Also, visit St. Andrew’s Basilica Arthunkal, a stunning church located on the beach. Don’t forget to indulge in the traditional Kerala delicacies that are available here. Spending the night on a houseboat is highly recommended as it offers a closer and more immersive experience of the local life and culture.

Day 6:

On the final day of your tour, you can travel to Kochi from Alleppey, which is approximately 85 km away and can be covered in 2-3 hours by car or taxi. Alternatively, you can take a boat ride that takes 4-5 hours or a train that takes 1-2 hours, depending on the train you choose. Once in Kochi, visit popular tourist spots such as Fort Kochi, Mattancherry Palace, and Jewish Synagogue.

Fort Kochi is a historic area with colonial-era buildings, including the oldest European church in India, St. Francis Church, and the Santa Cruz Basilica. Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is a beautiful palace built by the Portuguese in the 16th century.
