As more companies switch to remote working thanks to the second wave of the pandemic, users are increasingly relying on tools like video meeting apps to productivity tools, to help them get through their workday. Microsoft has now added a very useful feature to its Android app, which allows users to create voice recordings and then automatically transcribe them.
The new transcription feature that mimics the functionality of the Otter.ai app is now being tested on version 16.0.14026.20172 of the Microsoft Office app on Android, which is currently on the beta channel, as spotted by Neowin. The feature first appears to have been released last year for PCs under the name ‘Transcribe for Word’. Users who download the latest beta version of Office for Android should already have access to the features.
After updating to the latest version, users should be able to see a microphone logo after tapping the Add button at the bottom of the screen. After a user has recorded their voice, the report says that the service will automatically transcribe the content of that recording, while separating peoples voices. If you’ve used Google’s Recorder app on the company’s Pixel devices, the process of saving the recording in audio form and a transcription of the text should seem familiar.
However, it also appears that unlike the Recorder app on Pixel devices, Microsoft Office’s new recording and transcription tool won’t work offline. So if you are in an area with poor connectivity you probably won’t be able to use that feature. There’s no sign of the feature on the Office app for iOS, but users on Android should be able to grab the latest APK of Microsoft Office from a trustworthy site like APK Mirror.
