Ramlal Elephant Jhargram: Lonely Tusker Of West Bengal
Ramlal Elephant Jhargram: Elephants are known for their calm nature and strong bond with the herd. However, today I want to tell you about an unusual elephant who has separated from his herd and now roams the forests of Jhargram, West Midnapore, and Bankura districts of West Bengal. This lone elephant named Ramlal has become a bit unpredictable. As a result, there have been some notable incidents involving Ramlal and the locals.
One such incident happened when a video of Ramlal playing football went viral. Although generally harmless, Ramlal does not tolerate being disturbed. Unfortunately, a group of travellers in their 50s learned this the hard way when they attempted to touch the elephant’s tail. In a sudden fit of rage, Ramlal turned around and trampled one of the travellers, Madhab Malla, killing him, a forest department official said.
Locals, who had seen the elephant roaming the area for several weeks, affectionately named him ‘Ramlal’. According to Manish Yadav, divisional forest officer of the Rupnarayan division, this was the first time Ramlal had shown any signs of aggression.
