UU Lalit Retirement: CJI UU Lalit’s last working day today, will announce the verdict on six important matters, which will be broadcast live – News Portal

Chief Justice of India Justice UU Lalit is retiring tomorrow (November 8). However, on November 8, Guru Nanak Jayanti, there will be a holiday in the court. In such a situation, today is the last working day of Justice Lalit in the Supreme Court. On his last working day, the proceedings of the ceremonial bench headed by the CJI will be telecast live on behalf of the Supreme Court.

According to the information, the proceedings of the Ceremonial Bench will start after 2 pm. It will consist of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Bela M Trivedi. The Chief Justice of India shares the bench with his successor in the Ceremonial Bench. During this, other members of the bar and other officers bid him farewell.

Will pronounce verdict in six important cases

On his last working day, Justice UU Lalit will pronounce the verdict on six important matters. The biggest case in this is a 10 percent reservation for the Economically Poor (EWS) of the general category.

The constitutional validity of this reservation has been challenged in the Supreme Court. On the other hand, the second case is related to the Amrapali housing scheme.

In this, the Supreme Court is going to give a big decision on getting flats to the allottees or getting money in return. The other four cases are normal.

Was sworn in as CJI on August 27

Justice UU Lalit was sworn in as the 49th Chief Justice of the country on 27 August. His tenure lasted for 74 days.

The family of Justice UU Lalit has been associated with the judicial process for generations. Justice Lalit’s grandfather Ranganath Lalit was a lawyer in Solapur before independence.

Justice UU Lalit’s 90-year-old father Umesh Ranganath Lalit has also been a professional lawyer. He later served as a judge of the High Court.

Apart from this, Justice Lalit has two sons Harshad and Shreyash, who studied engineering. However, later Shreyash Lalit also turned to law. His wife Raveena is also a lawyer.
